SCA offers 5 academic programmes for students between the ages of 12 to 17years, spanning from Grades 7 to 12. They are:
1.Foundation Programme [For Grades 7 & 8]
2.Cambridge IGCSE Programme [For Grades 9 & 10]
3.High School Preparatory Programme (HSPP) [For Grades 10]
4.International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) [For Grades 11 & 12]
5.Cambridge A-Level Programme [For Grades 11 & 12]
The SCA’s Foundation Programme follows closely the Chinese National Curriculum (CNC) and is supplemented by Singapore’s curriculum. The Foundation Programme includes a school-based Foundation English Programme which is specially designed for students who have little or no exposure to an English learning environment, this will progressively prepare students for the international education. The school also provide opportunities for students who come from international primary schools to read International Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Integrated Humanities in English.
In SCA, we put emphasis on student-centric pedagogies that encourages and enables students to engage in their learning. The “Tea House Group” and “Socratic Seminar” are some of the common collaborative learning strategies use in our programme.
The High School curriculum is closely aligned with that of Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) and International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). In Grade 10, besides having classes preparing students for the Cambridge IGCSE, the school also hosts a High School Preparatory Programme (HSPP) to help students who have completed their Junior Middle 3 examination under the CNC framework to prepare for IBDP or A-level curriculum in Grade 11.
At the IGCSE stage, students take the following 6 subjects: Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, 2 Sciences and Economics or Business Studies. In addition, students will learn a Core Subject which aims to develop students’ ability to understand and solve some of the major global problems. This is a dynamic subject that combines Global Perspectives and Research, which enhance students’ Disciplined Mind and Synthesizing Mind that enable students to embark in research work at High School and beyond.
At the final 2 years of High School stage, students can opt for IBDP if their results meet the criteria. IBDP provides good balance of learning in 6 subjects group. In addition, there are 3 core components which include Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Extended Essay (EE), and Creative, activity and service (CAS). These are the modules that will challenge students in knowledge applications and acquiring skills in project assignments.
Another option we offer at SCA’s Senior High School is the Cambridge Advanced Level courses which is also known as Cambridge A-Level. Students can base on their academic interest to choose 3 - 4 subjects from Chinese language, mathematics, sciences, and humanities subjects. A-Levels are ideal for students who wants to focus on the subjects they are passionate in and want to carry on studying them at university level.
